Located in the Amos area of the
Abitibi belt, the
property is 100% owned by Cogitore, subject to a 50% back in right
held by Inmet Mining Corporation, and is accessible via public and logging roads which run across the
project area. The Castagnier project was acquired to cover an old VMS
copper
prospect which hosts encouraging copper zones grading up to 3.2% Cu and
0.7% Zn
over 3.1m (part of 1.2% Cu over 12m).
In the early 1950's, a vertical
shaft
was sunk to a depth of 120m to further explore the mineralization at
depth but
records of the work are incomplete. The rhyolite host rocks are
strongly
altered (sericite-chlorite) over at least 2 kilometres.
Although
no VMS deposits have been mined in the area, the chemical signature of
the rhyolites
at Castagnier is typical of that found in highly prospective VMS mining
camps
of the Abitibi belt (e.g. Kidd Creek). Drilling done to date has
confirmed the
presence of favourable rocks but additional work will be needed to
locate the
possible extension of mineralization discovered in the immediate area
of the
exploration shaft.
